The University of Ottawa Library is proud to present and support the following events for Open Access Week 2019:

10th issue launch of Potentia: Journal of International Affairs

When: Wednesday, October 23, 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.
Where: Social Science Building (FSS) 4004

Potentia, the interdisciplinary student journal of the Centre for International Policy Studies (CIPS), invites you to celebrate the publication of its tenth issue! Potentia publishes academic articles written, reviewed, and edited by graduate students. This year, we are delighted to showcase the different ways to be involved in the journal, as well as a special guest discussion on Open Access publishing from the uOttawa Library. Refreshments available.

Presentation:“The Critical Catalog: A Design Approach to Metadata for Diversity”

When: Wednesday, October 30, 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Where: Learning Crossroads - Tinkering Lab (CRX 220)

While diversity is a core value of librarianship, no systematic and scalable tools currently exist to promote diverse reading materials by and about marginalized populations. In this presentation, Rachel Ivy Clarke and Sayward Schoonmaker (School of Information Studies, Syracuse University) introduce a design research prototype ‚"The Critical Catalog‚" a library catalog that returns diverse reading materials, using an open-source ILS software and open data. The presenters will discuss the prototype‚ structure, metadata, and its social implications for knowledge organization.

Presentation of the 2019 Open Scholarship Award

When: Friday, November 8, starting at 2:00 p.m.
Where: Morisset Library (MRT) 141 (Student Lounge)

Join us for the presentation of this year’s Open Scholarship Award! The award recognizes faculty members and instructional staff who demonstrate excellence in supporting and practicing open scholarship in both teaching and research. Come meet the winner and learn more about their contributions to open scholarship. Light refreshments will be served.
